Way of the Cross

“We all have our crosses to bear.” Friends often offer this reminder as a note of encouragement when we experience difficult circumstances in our lives. But we know from the past crosses we have carried that new life is eventually born. We will explore the connection between our past and present crosses that we have endured and are currently bearing and the Way of the Cross that Jesus journeyed. Art activities, writing exercises, and time for prayer are designed to inspire such reflection.

Our Gospel Stories

Like Peter, we’ve been called, like one of the crowd, we’ve been miraculously fed, like the woman who would have been stoned, we’ve been forgiven. We’ve all been Mary, Martha and, at times, have needed Christ to expel our demons. Our lives are full of gospel stories; experiences through which the Living Lord has touched, molded, and recast our lives. In this weekend retreat, we will explore and write the stories of our lives by following the accounts and patterns of the gospels.

Pray-Writing with Scripture

There are many ways to “pray scripture” from meditation and contemplation, to lectio divina, to reading scholarly commentaries and exegesis; they all serve to deepen our understanding of God’s self-revelation to His people, both in the past and our own present. In this weekend retreat we will explore these and other methods of praying with scripture in the context of pray-writing.  Participants will develop further insights about their own inclinations to pray-write with scripture which they can then incorporate into their spiritual practices.
